I Got My First Hater and It Made Me Smile All Day

I Got My First Hater and It Made Me Smile All Day

Well, it happened. After years of wondering how come other people talked about their haters and thinking “I’ve never had negative feedback” – I got my first negative comment.

My first “hater.”

It should’ve been upsetting.

Years ago it probably would’ve made me sad or made me question my offering to wonder if it was wrong or priced incorrectly.

But this one seriously made me smile.

You see, I’ve newly created a monthly membership group to be a sacred space for Intuitive Writers so I can teach them and offer the support I so badly needed as I was starting out. It’s the difference between being freaked out by your writing and having a sacred container for it so the words can just flow and flow and flow.

I don’t know anyone else that sets up their writing this way and I personally feel it’s a great value (it’s a culmination of my nine plus years of learning!).

Except, when I promoted it on Facebook, it obviously wasn’t aligned with someone.

Firstly, I should add that I don’t have any male clients for my writing mentoring or editing services. I haven’t chosen this intentionally, but so far only women have been aligned so this was even one of the first male comments I’ve ever received.

Anyway, he took a look at the offering and said, “$22 a month for this feculence …id say its sacrilegious…not sacred….”

I actually had to look up “feculence” and am impressed he used that word. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it and it is as it sounds. A fancy way of saying “crap,” I gather.

But secondly, this made me happy. I honestly don’t want anyone in the group who doesn’t value my time and knowledge. This group is a way for me to reach people, use my intuitive channel so their guides can also support them, and help others who feel this STRONG call to write have the support that will help them thrive, but more importantly keep them writing.

Without energetic boundaries, intuitive writing can get a little cray cray. Not to mention more than a little scary (see: Are you really leading with your gifts when you think you are?).

I thanked him for his comment, amused that my landing page could upset him so, and let him know I had free resources in the form of blog posts and vlogs on my website.

His response?

“It’s not how real writers and writing works.”

Ah… and there we have it.

Am I somehow not a “real writer?” I was an English Major in college. I’ve been part of writer’s circles, taken writing workshops and have two websites where I have created countless amounts of content for each.

“What exactly does that make me?,” I wonder.

And don’t you think THAT is probably the heart of the problem for this commenter?

It reminds me of this comment thread I once read about meditating WRONG. Someone had said how they like to lie down to meditate and this woman went off about how there is one, and only ONE, way to meditate. If you weren’t sitting up right, straight as an arrow, you flat out were not meditating “correctly.”

Well, I’d like to argue that there are different reasons people meditate and if you want to relax and zone out so you can be a more peaceful person – I personally don’t care HOW you do it.

Many of us are taught to believe things have to work a certain way or they are untrue. Nonsense. Feculence if you will.

BUT, because I showed up honestly, authentically and I REALLY shared what will happen in the group, it caused him to react.

Which is really good because I don’t want to be part of a space with closed-minded people who aren’t open to receiving their intuitive guidance – because it’s not my job to convince him otherwise.

I don’t think you can change people’s minds as much as you can show them other ways. You can show up as YOU, be YOU, and if they relate to you – than great!

If not, it’s an amusing exchange and you can thank the universe for connecting you to those you can most help, not those who will be a time suck and closed off to receiving your teachings.

Now, I wasn’t always this way. I used to be heartbroken if someone unsubscribed from my email list and I would wonder what I did wrong. That was back when I didn’t have clarity. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do with all the writing that was pouring out of me and I didn’t know how to manage it.

Since then I’ve learned a very valuable lesson and you can read more about that HERE in The Word Every Lightworker Needs to Embrace to Keep Their Energy Strong.

Now, I’m not happy this person is limited in their thinking or just didn’t relate to me, I’m only happy that he didn’t join the group and create a negative environment in a space that I want to be a positive one.

I’m also happy I’ve come so far that I don’t have time to spend on who ISN’T aligned with me and instead can devote my attention to who IS.

Which let’s face it, feels SO much better!

How about you? Have you had your first hater? How did you respond? Let me know in the comments.

The Word Every Lightworker Needs to Embrace to Keep Their Energy Strong.

The Word Every Lightworker Needs to Embrace to Keep Their Energy Strong.

Oh boy. When I first started REALLY connecting to my intuition and healing gifts and understanding that they actually can work, I wanted to help everybody.

And I mean everyone.

Whether they wanted my help or not.

Which is the point I want to make. There are people, believe it or not, who do not want our help.

They may not trust us. They may not be ready to try something new and they may just plain be stuck and want to stay there for a while.

If you are a lightworker, it’s not your job to shine light on people who are not WANTING you to.

There’s that great quote by Anne Lamott – “Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.”

the word every lightworker needs to embrace to keep their energy strong

You see, if you feel you are a lightworker (see: What Kind of Lightworker Are You?) it makes perfect sense you want to help others. You’re born to help basically.

But you also need to honor the journey of others which is why I learned a word that I think every lightworker should adopt into their lives and start applying it when they feel that call to help.

DISCERNMENT.

Now I don’t mean this in the biblical sense (and was surprised to even discover it was tied to the bible as I was hearing this word and decided to look it up).

I mean learning to discern where your energy is most needed, most valued and most well-received.

It’s like if you try to play catch with someone but there is a brick wall in between you. You can throw the ball all day but the outcome isn’t going to change and you are going to get tired.

A better choice would be to move away from the wall and throw it to a person so they can actually catch it.

That’s the more “discerning” choice.

This can apply to your friendships, the activities you do in your life (are they adding value or detracting value?), and how you use your spiritual gifts.

Because they are gifts and you don’t want to give them to just anybody.

Which isn’t the same as helping others. If you can lend a helping hand to someone in need – do it, please!

But if that person isn’t wanting your help? Take those same resources to someone who is.

It’s hard sometimes to know the difference, but the obvious clue is if someone asks for your help on a regular basis but never takes your advice. They are not the person you can most help. You can give them clues to what would help them, offer advice here and there, but don’t spend your time trying to make them listen. Even if it’s a loved one and you love them dearly.

Your energy is best spent by using judgement as to what feels expansive and what feels constrictive. If spending time with a person, giving away your gifts feels good – then it is!

If it feels draining, sad, frustrating and awful – then it is that too.

For lightworkers, sending out your light and having it not reach people actually feels sad and depleting. Like turning on a hose to water the grass but instead you water the cement and the grass starts dying.

Having it connect as it’s meant to feels uplifting and positive.

Too often we don’t think about who and where our energy is going – we just feel the desire to give and we do.

Being discerning with our time, energy and even friendships is IMPORTANT. Because we only have so much energy and light to share and when we deplete it, it shrinks, when we feed it, it grows.

So you want to be discerning about where your time is going.

Right?

Not mean, not stingy, “discerning.”

You have important things to do, gifts to share – use your time and energy wisely!

How about you? Are you chasing boats trying to shine your light on them, or shining brightly right where you are? Let me know, in the comments.

Are You REALLY Leading With Your Gifts When You Think You Are?

Are You REALLY Leading With Your Gifts When You Think You Are?

Are You REALLY Leading With Your Gifts When You Think You Are?

I’ve been holding out on you… and I’m sorry about that.

A few weekends ago, I attended a shadow retreat. Which may sound strange but it was so powerful. “Shadow work” as you may have seen it called, is basically asking what is blocking your ability to receive THIS. “This” being whatever it is you feel like should be in your life but it isn’t.

It’s called “work” because it’s really hard to accept full accountability for the good AND the bad in our lives. Really hard, right? It’s easier to think “I’m doing everything I possibly can and this just isn’t working” rather than, “Am I somehow blocking my ability to receive good things?”

No one wants to think we would block our own success. And on a conscious level you wouldn’t, of course. But those darn fears!!! Don’t they come from strange places and interfere???

Well… that’s why I love and hate shadow work.

I want to believe I’m trying my hardest and that if things aren’t working out it’s beyond my control. That feels a lot better to me.

BUT, I also feel I’m here for a reason and not fulfilling my purpose, or dying with the music inside me as they say, is scary enough to make me push my boundaries and forget about comfort.

So that’s why I packed a bag, headed to San Diego with 10 other women to explore my shadows and get even more experience working with this specific shadow deck of cards that I use.

What I wanted to know in this time of reflection, was why people weren’t understanding how helpful my Soul Writing Magic digital program is. I mean I woke up every day for at least a month and a half, meditated, and then brought through the information in what I can only describe as the most vivid downloads I’ve ever received which was the culmination of 10 years as an Intuitive Writer gaining that knowledge. But marketing it has been a challenge. I took weeks to work on a landing page to connect people to the program and I had a few sales, but not the 10’s of 1000’s I had pictured in my mind.

Rather than think that I heard wrong, or that I hadn’t had the intense channeling experience for the course, I started asking myself those questions. “What am I not allowing?” And man, I was hit with some truth through the cards and also through other participants in the workshop.

I learned that I wasn’t directly saying “I will help you be a better intuitive writer.” Instead, I was talking about the Soul’s voice, which is a key component, but I wasn’t truly waving my freak flag and saying “This is what I do.”

I often leave out the part of my story where I discovered I am a medium when I decided to write my book and how my house became frighteningly haunted. The majority of my intuitive writing journey has been learning how to have strong energetic boundaries, figure out who the heck was talking in my head in voices that sounded like mine, be a clear channel, and manage the scary truth that I can hear spirits and even see them. The seeing them was so scary for me I asked not to see them. So I can hear and feel and sense them – but I choose not to see them (the one I saw did not look like what I thought any spirit would look like!).

So when I say, “Hey, by the way, you need some strong energetic boundaries when you do automatic or intuitive writing,” I‘ve been saying it casual because I know fear attracts fearful things.

But really I should be shouting “Hey! If you go the frick down this path of intuitive writing, before you even know you’re an intuitive writer, you need this information like NOW!”

are you really leading with your gifts

I’ve been sugar coating my insight, which makes it hard for you to connect to me if you are in a place where you are starting to have the same realizations I had starting a decade ago.

What I’m learning, and really letting sink in, is that when we hide from our gifts and when we hide our gifts from others, it makes it REALLY hard to shine.

And then we sit here wondering, “Why aren’t people understanding what I’m saying?”

You may realize, like I did, that people weren’t understanding what I was saying because I wasn’t really saying it. I was making it pretty and wrapping it up neatly in a bow.

I was telling myself it was because I didn’t want to freak you out and make you fearful because what if you were then too scared to write (there’s been plenty of times I was scared to write). I didn’t want to do that because intuitive writing is the most valuable tool I have in my toolkit, not only for writing but I heal the energy in my house, for my family and friends, and co-create my journey with the universe – all through writing. I release obstacles, call in healing options, you name it – through writing!

I feel called to write and connect to others to share information and when I don’t write spirits keep me up ALL NIGHT LONG with words going through my head. I mean it, I get so tired when that happens and can barely function the next day.

But I haven’t been honest with myself or you to admit that I’m a medium. It’s scary for me to say that. My mediumship abilities came through writing, surprised me, scared the crap out of me, but also gave me a much more fun and meaningful life. I didn’t expect to be a medium and now I know we all have these abilities to the extent that we allow ourselves to own it. Even if it’s being a medium for your own higher guidance from your higher self only.

I wouldn’t change it for the world so it’s time that I own it. So that people can finally understand what the heck I’m saying and why it’s important for people with this gift of Intuitive Writing to understand what they are doing and with whom they are doing it. How to connect in a CLEAR way, have a good strong energetic boundary, and understand that a majority of the interference, sadly, is us and our own energy.

Which is why I opened myself up to receive messages from shadow and then support the part of me that wants to reject the insight because it doesn’t feel warm and fuzzy (so much easier just to say “that’s not true!”).

From now on I’m going to be honest with you because it’s time to be honest with myself.

As I was lying in bed the past few nights trying to sleep but hearing the words for this post going through my head over and over louder and louder, I just had to admit that I can’t hold back anymore. There’s no reason too that I can think of.

I know that when I show up completely and own my power it helps you show up and own your power. Even if the process to get to that point is often messy and ugly and then we do it again the next time we expand and again for the next upgrade.

Because that’s where the good stuff is. Those moments when you feel so comfortable in your own skin and know that you are fully aligned.

Worth it!

Am I right?

What about you? Are you REALLY sharing your gifts with the world? Are yours hiding or FULLY out there?

I’d love to know…

In the comments.

Does Something Spiritual Make It the “Right Place at the Right Time?”

Does Something Spiritual Make It the “Right Place at the Right Time?”

Does Something Spiritual Make It the “Right Place at the Right Time?”

We’ve all either known or heard of something who “struck it rich.” Worked hard at their business and then sold it for millions and never have to work a day in their life again. It’s so easy to think “That LUCKY B!”

Or, even more importantly, the tendency we have to say, “Yah. But all he did was work.”

For example, I have a friend, who has a friend, who sold his company for multi-millions. He is set for life! A truly have-anything-your-heart-desires kind of life at that. When my friend was telling me all about him she ended the story saying “But he’s a workaholic though.” In other words, he made millions because he worked non-stop so he deserves it.

does something spiritual make it right place and right time

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read our disclosure for more info.

The way she said it made me think she wouldn’t go after millions of dollars because it would mean she would have to sacrifice everything else in her life she loves and ONLY work.

And is that true? Or is there something more too it?

Millions of people work SUPER hard, millions of them don’t become rich.

Was he just lucky? He got a “random” job after high school and it turned into this very niche business.

Right place at the right time?

When I hear these stories, I put aside all my preconceived notions for a minute. Even my first inclination to feel jealous too.

Maybe he looked like a workaholic because he loved what he was doing. Could it have been passion? You know that saying that an entrepreneur will work 80 hours a week to work for themselves rather than work 40 hours a week for someone else? As an entrepreneur I will tell you, it’s hard to ever turn off all these ideas and the effort to birth them, but it doesn’t feel like work to spend countless hours making it happen.

But what if it’s something other than hard work (and luck) that makes a person sell their company for multi-millions?

Maybe, just maybe, he was really tuned into his intuition.

When someone is in the right place at the right time, maybe it isn’t luck at all. Maybe they followed their inner guidance to be there so the opportunity could happen.

And then they acted. Didn’t self-sabotage. Didn’t upper limit.

They also must not have a limiting belief about how much money they should earn or how the money is the root of all evil or that they are not worth it.

Those beliefs limit so many without even knowing it.

I also think the people who can let the opportunity in, know how to get out of their own way.

When we see people crushing it in a way that we would like to (i.e. selling your business for multi-millions!), instead of thinking they are lucky or they were willing to give up everything else in life for work, allow yourself to dream!

Wonder about it. How did they do it? What is it about that person that they ALLOWED that kind of life in, found those opportunities and made it happen?

Because if you look, you will find stories of people changing their life in the poorest, bleakest of circumstances.

It’s more than just luck, it’s more than just hard work.

Gay Hendricks wrote a great book about self-sabotage and “upper limiting” behavior in The Big Leap (you can find it HERE). He talks about those subtle thoughts we have when things are going well that come in to sabotage it. You think “Life is good!” and then worry “OMG. We’re going to get an unexpected bill,” or something along those lines. When you start to pay attention to your thoughts more, you can see the pattern and stop them.

(See: How to release waiting-for-the-other-shoe-to-drop syndrome.)

Thought patterns are habits that are deeply ingrained though, so it takes time to create change – but it’s possible!

Another book that explores this tendency we can have to think others are just lucky and it won’t happen to us is “Get Rich Lucky Bitch” (you can find it HERE). It’s a great book to help you overcome those limiting thoughts that keep us from having it ALL.

Together, these two books can help at least invite in some questions for you to wonder if others are really just lucky, workaholics, at the right place and the right time, or if it’s something else? Are they following their intuition AND have healed (or never had) “money issues”?

Here are the books referenced in this post:

What do you think? Are others just lucky? Is it mindset? Following intuition? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Are you REALLY here for it?

Are you REALLY here for it?

Are you REALLY here for it?

At yoga class last week, the instructor told us the story about how she’d called to check in on her niece her first week of middle school. Her niece told her all about how everyone had this specific backpack now, nothing about the actual classes and ended with “But I’m here for it.” She asked her about that phrase and she told her “it’s something everyone is saying.”

are you here for it?

Think about what a great saying that is “I’m here for it.” So I don’t have the backpack that everyone else has that I really want, but I’m showing up 100% anyway – that’s really what she was saying (whether or not she meant it).

We spent the entire class, holding poses MUCH longer than is comfortable and the instructor kept reminding us “Be here for it.” In other words, don’t drift off when it’s uncomfortable or your legs start shaking – stay present. It’s what life is, isn’t it? Showing up for the good, the bad, the ugly?

Even when you have a million things to do at once and you are just one person.

Even when the kids take their bad day out on you and you are exhausted from it.

It’s when you all have giggling fits at bedtime or when you see someone’s face who makes you smile.

It’s the times you sit in the sand at the beach or on your favorite park bench.

It’s when you’re driving in traffic and cars are moving impulsively all around you and you need to be on your toes.

I feel so lucky that I get to be here for it.

It’s what’s helped me figure out my business and really follow my dreams. Being here for every moment – all of it!

How about you? Are you here for it too?
